Wrapping it Up

October 11, 2009

Mercy mercy.  I have had the worst case of the flu I’ve had in the last five years for the past week.  I have slept literally all week, and have not left the house since my brief (very pathetic) attempt to work on Wednesday.  What a mistake!  If I had not tried to work on Wednesday and then part of the day Thursday, I really think I would totally be over this blasted thing and better able to enjoy my weekend.  Instead, I am still laying around sniffling, coughing, and feeling mildly miserable.

So, I haven’t stepped foot outside the door since Thursday a.m., and then only for a few brief hours, and it has been oh-so-long since I have sat outside on my back porch, which I normally do for about three hours a day.  It hasn’t helped that it has been (relatively) absolutely frigid outside, with rain and clouds to boot.  Fall is definitely here.

I was feeling a bit better yesterday and actually, rather stir-crazy.  I took that opportunity to clean out my closet, moving spring/summer out and fall/winter in.  I must say that, after assessing my wardrobe, being teased mercilessly by Dr. Love about needing to move things out so new things may be purchased, I am in desparate need of some new clothing.

It has been two winters since I have had a job where I had to dress business casual, at a minimum.  I have a handful of sweaters, most of them fairly worn out, five pairs of winter dress pants, and no winter shoes.  I have been needling QoB to assist with some online shopping for some new fall/winter clothing, throwing around some ideas, circling items in catalogues, emailing pictures, and think I am finally wearing her down.

Of course, she is a rather busy lady and I am trying to be ever-so-patient with the whole process.  I do know that with the help of my fashion advisors, QoB and Dr. Love, that I will be stylish this season and able to wear more than three basic outfits.  Sometimes it really strikes me how fashion-challenged I am, especially considering how good I am about coordinating jewelry, shoes, and socks.

I know that sounds odd, but I do have a rather great flair for doing so — the scarf coordinating with the earrings coordinating with the shoes.  It’s almost an OCD thing, or possibly a vanity thing — but it’s really important to me that things match.  I do spend quite a bit of my time wearing mostly solid colors, namely black, gray, red, and white.  While I don’t think there is necessarily anything wrong with that, I can at times get into traps where I hold onto items and continue to wear them past the point where I should.  So the shirt shrunk in the drier — well I’ll just wear a longer shirt under it to cover up the fact that it shows my belly.  Pants too short?  Make it a style, dahling.  😀

When Dr. Love and I first met, he joked quite a bit that he was going to nominate me to go on the show What Not To Wear.  Apparently, in addition to my keen eye for jewelry, scarves, shoes, accessories in general, I am sometimes clueless as to what to put on the rest of my body.  I honestly do think that Dr. Love has saved me on more than one occasion from leaving the house looking like a total disaster.  Bless his heart, as Gma would say.

A song that QoB and I are trying to get my little sis to play at her wedding reception/dance:

My Personal Path to Hot-ness

August 21, 2009
I’m on day 21 of no junk food.  Other than a small slip at Dairy Queen, with the Blizzard of the Month — it was Girl Scout Thin Mint — I’m not so good as to be able to pass THAT up, especially when it’s a limited time only type of deal.  Let’s just be thankful I have been able to keep my car from going on autopilot through Sonic or McDonalds, my two biggest vices, other than gas stations, where I can find all sorts of terrible things to eat.

And it makes me feel good, both mentally and physically.  I have even taken to measuring my food at home.  Last night I made a mean pot of spaghetti with Italian turkey sausage, and it was seriously amazing.  So seriously amazing that, usually, I would have eaten two helpings, thinking it was one.  But not last night — I measured and actually felt good about eating a healthy dinner with a small salad.

I am anxious, in a good way, to step onto the scale this week.  My clothes are already fitting better, and I have a lot more energy.  I started taking a new medication for sleep earlier this week, and it has made me sick a few times — has also made me not so hungry.  I don’t think that’s necessarily a good thing, to use it for weight loss, but it helps that it’s not one more medication that makes me eat everything in sight.  I don’t know if I will stay on it, though, because it’s not helping me sleep, which is the point, right?

It helps me sometimes, to find an outfit that I think is really cute that I can hang a dream on, so to speak, for once I have lost some weight.  I am really liking these shrugs from Lane Bryant:

So, these are some outfits/styles that I look forward to being able to wear, that I would be COMFORTABLE wearing when I lose some more weight.  And I have a ton of clothes in my closet, as well, that will fit after a little while and I will just be walking around so SUPER-HOT everywhere, that Dr. Love will have to start beating up every guy that tries to hit on me.  😀
